Herald Square
Here we have the poor man's Times Square; just as, I suppose, the New York Herald was a poor man's New York Times. Times Square is pretty frightening, it's true, but Herald Square is a mess for different reasons. Its chaos is a bit more local. Whereas Times Square is overrun with tourists, Herald Square is a massive shopping mecca and, as such, it can be make for very unpleasant walking (all those bags!)
